Tessa was born in Hunan province as you know, however you may not know what the name stands for (south of the lake) or any of its history - we certainly didn't and in an attempt to pass the time I looked some things up. So...first let me explain that China's history is old, I mean way old. There is no way to cover all aspects of one province without writing a novel.
Hunan is divided into 14 prefecture divisions, 13 of which are prefecture level cities, think "state" and "county" in US. Tessa is in one of the 13 cities, Yongzhou. And what do you recognize? That's right her surname is Yong. Apparently there is a lovely mountain range that runs through the area. In this mountain region there is the Wuxi stone carvings which is an early example of Chinese Calligraphy. At the highest of the peaks is an inscription which says in part "...you can drink as you like, and you can chant as you please." Within Yongzhou is Dao County, an administrative division or "township" within the "county". The Mandarin phonetic's version of Dao County is Dao Xian, Tessa's given first name is Xiao. Ding.
Hunan's capital is Changsha, which is where our defining moment will occur. There is a video on You Tube where a family is seeing their baby for the first time in Changsha - I am curious if we will be in the same room. The average temperature in Changsha in May is 79 - not too bad, however Apr-Jun in Changsha is considered the wet season full of very heavy rainfall...joy of joys. Changsha is located on a branch of the Yangtze river making it a major port and it is considered one of China's top 20 economically advanced cities. Apparently the Chinese version of American Idol is filmed here - it is called Super Girl...no capes were mentioned. I have attached a skyline photo...looks like finding baby items that may have been forgotten shouldn't be an issue.
And that is a wrap.
No news on travel...you will be the first to know. Ok, probably not.
Did you notice her pouty lips?? :)
